Was higher education part of your journey? If so, what was your area of study?
My educational journey traversed several institutions, culminating in the acquisition of multiple degrees. Among these, the most notable and recent is from what is now recognized as the University of Maryland Global Campus. I opted for this educational institution for its specialized program in cybersecurity.
Additionally, I hold degrees in the field of communications, which has proven to be the most utilized qualification in my professional trajectory. While possessing the essential cyber expertise, I deemed it necessary to attain formal education and accreditation as a testament to the fact that I am not merely a writer or researcher, but also a well-educated analyst.
What was your inaugural role within the realm of Information Technology?
My debut in the realm of Information Technology dates back to my period as a quasi-IT specialist for my squadron in the Air Force, circa 1997. Nearly three decades into this field, I can assertively affirm that embarking on this path was the wisest decision I made. Initially stationed in a contracting squadron, where we handled the drafting of various contracts, both for construction and services, I observed a palpable absence of substantial IT support within our ranks. Armed with a considerable degree of knowledge, I promptly volunteered to fill this void, and the ensuing journey unfolded organically.
What inspired your transition towards specializing in security?
The domain of security piqued my interest at a later juncture in my career trajectory. The initial six years were predominantly spent as an IT specialist in the Air Force. Subsequently, driven by the desire to embark on a different career trajectory within the Air Force, I pursued further education which eventually led to another degree. I veered towards the field of linguistics, specifically Russian, for cross-training purposes. Fueled by a longstanding aspiration to acquire proficiency in a foreign language, the allure of the Russian language, with its unique alphabet and the distinctive culture of Russia, captivated me. The decision was underpinned by a profound aspiration to play a pivotal role in safeguarding the U.S., thereby propelling me into this specific direction.
